North Lincolnshire Council are currently looking for new members for the North Lincolnshire Local Access Forum. Applications are invited from people with an interest in the local environment, to serve on the North Lincolnshire Local Access Forum. Local Access Forums are statutory groups who provide advice and recommendations to decision making organisations, such as councils, about improvements to public access for outdoor recreation and sustainable travel. The Forum’s role is to provide guidance and contribute towards improving opportunities for the public to enjoy North Lincolnshire’s countryside.

Many people already know the do’s and don’ts of financial fraud and scams – the no one should ever contact you out of the blue to ask for your full PIN or password, or even make you feel pressured into moving money to another account. The trouble is, in the heat of the moment, its easy to forget this. After all, trusting people on their word is something everyone tends to do instinctively. If someone says they’re from your bank or trusted organisation, why wouldn’t you believe them?

Criminals’ use of social engineering tactics through deception and impersonation involving the criminal posing as a genuine individual or organisation and contacting the victim using a range of methods including via telephone, email and text message. Criminals also use social media to approach victims, using adverts for goods and investments which never materialise once the payment has been made.

So when you receive an email, text message or phone call,
STOP – Take a moment to stop and think before parting with money or personal information
CHALLENGE – Could it be fake? Its ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you
PROTECT – Contact your bank immediately if you think you have been the victim of a scam so they can take action to protect your money the contact Action Fraud.

Volunteering in a Councillor role is a great way to serve the community.  Getting involved with the local council can lead to new training opportunities, meeting lots of different people, helping out at local events and making a difference in the Community in lots of different ways.  To be eligible you must be British or a citizen of the Commonwealth or European Union, at least 18 years old and Registered to vote in the area or have lived, worked or owned property there for at least 12 months before an election.  Some great reasons as suggested by the Local Government Association to become a Councillor are:

• You can make a difference and help shape the future of the local community
• You have concern about your local area and wanting to ensure the community gets the right services
• You can represent the views of local people and ensure that community interests are taken into account
• You have concern about a specific issue and wanting to do something about it
• You have good ideas for the council and community in a time of scarce resources
• You can contribute your skills
• You can build on other community work through a charity, voluntary group or school governing body

Find Santa’s Reindeers around the shop and business windows in Barton.

Christmas is fast approaching and to get you into the festive spirit, the Town Council will once again be launching a treasure trail around the town centre for the young and young-at-heart.

12 Reindeer have runaway and are now hiding in shop windows around the High Street, King Street, George Street and Market Place! You can start searching high and low from Monday 14 November – can you find them all? Visit our Facebook page www.facebook.com/BartonTownCouncil for clues.

To enter the competition all you need to do is download an entry form or pick one up from the Town Council Office on Queen Street, write down all the shops which have one of our reindeer in their window and return your entry form by email, info@bartonuponhumbertowncouncil.go.uk or to the Town Council by 4pm on Monday 5 December. Don’t forget to include your name, email address and contact number.

The 11th day of the 11th month in 2022 marks the 104-year anniversary of the end of the World War One. Remembrance Day gives time for thoughts and prayers for loved ones and those who gave their lives in service of their country. Please come and join us.

Remember remember, the 5th of November! Join the Barton Upon Humber Lions Club for their annual bonfire and fireworks display in Baysgarth Park this Saturday. Gates open at 17:00, Bonfire will be lit at 17:30 and fireworks at 18:45.
